CTAC is currently working with Mechdyne to build a custom, advanced audiovisual and virtual reality studio known as the Visualization Laboratory (or VizLab).
Once completed, the VizLab's innovative "half-pipe" design will be a state-of-the-art tool that is unique in our field. With a 45-megapixel display, powered by 4 NVIDIA Quadro P6000 GPUs, the VizLab will provide a fully-immersive, audio-visual, interactive 3D environment. It will be used for exploring novel data sets (theoretical and observational) and providing a collaborative space to explore the mysteries of the universe.
Building and testing of the VizLab was completed in August at Mechdyne's office in Marshalltown, Iowa.
In September, Mechdyne diassembled the VizLab, transported it down to Pasadena, and installed it at CTAC. Installation was completed at the beginning of October.
